About Specimen Collection
One of the following specimens is required for DNA testing.
Swab rubbed inside the mouth (buccal epithelial cells)
Testing is done using buccal epithelium collected by lightly rubbing the inside of the mouth for about 10 seconds while twirling the sterilized swab for genetic testing included in the testing kit.
It's a simple, painless method, so specimens can easily be collected even from newborn babies.
Things touched by humans or tissues like hair/nails
Even if buccal epithelium collection is difficult, testing can be performed with the same accuracy as buccal epithelium using various "things" or human-derived tissues, such as toothbrushes, hair, and cigarette butts.
