Only at seeDNA Genetic Medical Laboratory in Japan

Even for specimens that are difficult to judge using conventional methods used by forensic science laboratories, we aim for more accurate evaluation using high-definition analysis (more than 1,000 times that of conventional methods)* with a Next-Generation DNA Sequencer (NGS).

This is an NGS test developed originally by seeDNA in Japan to handle the analysis of chemically treated evidence and specimens damaged by ultraviolet rays.

If the result is unstable due to multiple factors such as mutation or degradation, please consult us first. Our specialized staff provides free consultations even on weekends.

Specimen Types and Test Success Rates
To read DNA information from crucial evidence needed in criminal investigations and infidelity testing, the technological capability of the testing facility is essential.
Using a next-generation DNA sequencer, we analyze 700 DNA regions and most reliably read DNA information from the evidence.
We do not waste precious evidence that is limited in number.
We disclose world-class testing success rates for various types of specimens obtained from the scene.

*The main reason why the success rate is not 100% is 'mixture of DNA from multiple people'. Unanalyzable does not necessarily mean failure of the testing process.

Free Retesting

Not only in the case of specimen damage, but also if accurate test results cannot be obtained due to DNA degradation during shipping accidents or delays, we will perform a free re-test*1.
seeDNA Genetic Medical Laboratory covers the round-trip shipping cost of the test kit required for free re-testing, and we will conduct it as a speed test at no additional cost.
*1: Free retesting applies only to our specified swab specimens.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.What is a Special DNA Profile?

A.
A Special DNA Profile is a high-precision DNA analysis service targeting specimens that are difficult to judge by conventional methods due to UV damage, chemical treatment, degradation from long-term storage, DNA mutations, or trace amounts. Using seeDNA Genetic Medical Laboratory's patented technology (Patent No. 7121440) and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), we analyze 700 DNA regions with more than 1,000 times the precision of conventional methods.

Q.What is the difference between a normal DNA Profile and a Special DNA Profile?

A.
A normal DNA Profile performs personal identification using STR analysis (about 20-30 loci) often used in forensic labs. On the other hand, the Special DNA Profile uses NGS to analyze 700 DNA regions, so personal identification information can be obtained even from damaged or fragmented DNA. Specifically, it handles specimens stored for over 20 years, those exposed to sunlight/UV for over 2 days, formalin-fixed tissues, and specimens that did not yield accurate results elsewhere.

Q.What kind of specimens are eligible for Special DNA Profile?

A.
Specimens falling under any of the following 5 conditions are eligible: 1. Stored for over 20 years, 2. Exposed to sunlight/UV for over 2 days, 3. Formalin-fixed tissues, 4. Suspected DNA mutations, 5. Failed to achieve international accuracy standards elsewhere. We also handle analysis from non-oral epithelium specimens like hair, nails, toothbrushes, and cigarette butts.

Q.What is the cost and timeframe for the Special DNA Profile?

A.
The cost is 24,800 JPY (tax included) per oral epithelium specimen, and an additional 33,000 JPY (tax included) for non-oral epithelium specimens. The test takes 7-9 business days normally, and 3-5 business days (+20,000 JPY) for the speed plan. Round-trip shipping for the kit is included, with no extra charges. A full refund guarantee applies if there is a mistake in the judgment.

Q.Can you test specimens deemed 'Unanalyzable' by other companies?

A.
Yes, it is possible. seeDNA aims to obtain DNA profiles even from damaged or degraded DNA deemed unanalyzable elsewhere, using high-definition NGS analysis and proprietary trace DNA technology (Patent No. 7121440). A second opinion campaign with a 10% cashback on the appraisal fee is also currently underway.
