Dog DNA Testing

Dog DNA testing is a test that analyzes the unique DNA profile of a dog to scientifically prove parentage and pedigree. Using the same methods as human DNA testing, it determines the genetic connection between the sire, dam, and puppy. It is used for verifying pedigree certificates and breeding management by breeders(1).

The dog DNA test at seeDNA is 33,000 JPY (tax included) for 2 dogs. For the 3rd dog onwards, an additional 16,500 JPY is charged per dog. If the mother dog does not participate, an additional fee of 10,000 JPY per dog will apply. If samples other than swabs (nails, blood, etc.) are used, an additional 33,000 JPY per sample is charged. Round-trip shipping, deferred payment fees, and installment fees are all free.

Results will be reported in 14 business days from the arrival of the sample. The testing period is counted only on weekdays, excluding weekends and holidays. The test kit is shipped by express mail on the day of the order, allowing for smooth sample collection and return.

Buccal epithelial cells (mucous membrane inside the cheek) collected with a swab are used as the standard sample. Testing is also available with non-swab samples such as nails, hair, blood, and semen. However, for non-swab samples, the examiner performs the DNA extraction work individually, so an additional fee of 33,000 JPY per sample and additional testing time will incur.

Having the mother dog's DNA data allows us to exclude maternally inherited genes from the puppy's DNA, enabling a more accurate determination of parentage with the sire. Participation of the mother dog is free of charge, but without it, the complexity of the analysis increases, resulting in an additional fee of 10,000 JPY per dog(2).
