After actually applying, I received progress updates by email as things happened (sample arrival, hospital referral, start of testing, etc.), and although the testing took a bit longer since it spanned a long holiday period, I was able to wait with peace of mind.

Just one thing — I applied for the free optional test, but I later found out that an SNS review was required to confirm it, and I wish I had known that beforehand.
