Suppose the special specimen (toothbrush) I submitted this time as the alleged father's sample had, by mistake, actually belonged to the applicant (the fetus's mother).
In that case, I imagine the parent-child relationship with the fetus would be confirmed, so how would such a case be handled?
Would an error come up indicating that the mother's DNA and the DNA extracted from the alleged father's specimen belong to the same person?
(For example, since DNA can distinguish between male and female, would it be detected at the point of testing… and so on?)
