[Parent-Child DNA Testing] \"Above what percentage is the blood relationship certain?\"
2021.09.09
This is an email from a customer in Kumamoto Prefecture who used our DNA parent-child (paternity) test on September 9, 2021.
Thank you for the testing this time. Why are the values different among the three siblings? Above what percentage is the blood relationship certain?
Our Response
Thank you for contacting us.
Regarding your inquiry, the international standard for a blood relationship to be recognized is a probability of paternity of 99.9%.
Please rest assured, as the result obtained exceeds the international standard at 99.99% or higher.
Also, for general paternity testing, there is a convention of listing the probability of paternity up to the digit where the decimal is no longer a 9, and we too actually record this in our reports. If the last digit is 0, a 9 may also appear.
This arises solely from differences in the STR data (the numbers in the table) inherited by the father and the child.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you very much.
