This is an email from a customer who used our DNA Parent-Child Testing service.

On March 17, 2020, we received an email with the following content from a customer in Kanagawa Prefecture.

To seeDNA

My name is ****** and I placed the request.

Thank you for your reply regarding the pamphlet I inquired about,
letting me know that it had been enclosed.
I had become worried that I might have lost it somewhere,
so I was greatly relieved.

Also, thank you for the report of the test results.
Learning that our two children are biologically his,
we were relieved to receive the results.

There is just one thing that leaves me anxious and puzzled...

When I look at the probability of paternity for the two children,
I felt a little uneasy that the number of digits differs significantly. It would help if you could explain this difference in the number of digits.
I am sorry to trouble you when you are busy, but I would appreciate your reply.

◆◆◆◆Our reply◆◆◆◆

Dear **** ****,

Thank you for your continued support.
My name is **** of seeDNA Co., Ltd.

Thank you for taking the time to reply despite your busy schedule.
If this test has been of even a little help to you, all of us here are truly delighted.

Regarding your inquiry, for standard paternity testing there is a convention of listing the probability of paternity up to the digit after the decimal point where the number is no longer 9, and we do in fact record this in our reports.

This difference in the number of digits arises purely from the differences in the STR data (the numbers in the table) inherited by the father and the children.

Also, the probability of paternity is not simply a value that represents the "probability of being the father."
Once the value reaches 99.9% or higher, it is considered under international standards to be a blood relationship that cannot be overturned, so please rest assured.
