Our Initiatives to Prevent Misjudgment Risks Due to Human Error
The Importance of Double-Checking with Two Analyses
Recently, there has been an increase in cases where customers who are anxious about the test results from other companies consult with us, and when we re-test, the results are overturned.
Why does this happen?
The key lies in the "reconfirmation of test results."
DNA testing theoretically never yields a 100% result. Moreover, as long as multiple samples are handled simultaneously, there is a risk of reporting incorrect results due to testing errors caused by sample mix-ups.
However, since our establishment in 2014, we have not had a single misjudgment in DNA testing.
This time, we will explain the importance of "reconfirmation," which is the biggest reason why we, handling over 10,000 samples annually, have never made a misjudgment.

In order to investigate the biological relationship between subjects, a complex testing process over two days must be performed without a single mistake.
Even if they are true biological parents and children, if a sample is mixed up and tested with someone else's DNA, an incorrect negative result will be produced.
To prevent human error and confirm that there are truly no mistakes in the test results, a "double check" that performs the analysis a second time is essential.
Unfortunately, many testing agencies in Japan report results after only one analysis, but this is an absolutely necessary task to prevent any unlikely mistakes, and seeDNA implements double checks for all paternity tests.
Additionally, no additional samples or extra costs are required for the double check.
How the Double Check Works
Suppose that in the first test, samples a and b are mixed up as shown in the left figure below, and the biological relationship is denied.
We have a database where all DNA profile data is stored in an anonymized state. We perform a comparative analysis with up to 10 years of subject data in the database to see if there is data that establishes a biological relationship with the DNA obtained this time. This process is the double check.
With this double check, even in the unlikely event that a negative result occurs due to a mistake in the first test, it becomes possible to find the true biological father in the database and report accurate test results again, as shown in the right figure below.
DNA testing is an important test that significantly impacts not only the subjects but also the lives of those around them.
We will continue to steadfastly maintain our testing system and provide even higher precision DNA testing services.
